Default How long can root canal teeth last?

I thought the whole point of doing root canal treatment would be to save the tooth? so why do people say you need to get a crown to stop it from breaking???

Cant a root canal treated tooth last forever?

they can last a long time I have had mine For over a year. My dentist did suggest down the road I get a Crown put on it because since the tooth is dead it could crack or chip.

well Root canal treated teeth do last long! Getting a crown doesn't mean its not treated , crown is the part of the restoration it acts as a cover over tooth as after root canal treatment treatment it gets brittle and is liable to fracture if not covered with a crown in cases where more of the tooth structure is destroyed!
having a crown doesn't lessens the life of the tooth but it prolongs it!
root canal treated teeth definitely lasts for longer but if hygiene maintained!!!!

People are right and so is the dentist
Its because the tooth has become weak with the drilling of holes to remove the pulp so now you need to have a crown(cap) in place to protect it from breaking.
The tooth is saved and should last forever because there is nothing there to get rotten and the crown prevents it from breaking.
